What it is

Prompting Guide (the Prompt Engineering Guide) is an open learning resource started by DAIR.AI, with community contributions; its code repository is MIT-licensed. The site explains how to write prompts for large language models, in sections on the basics, prompting techniques, applications and models. Its Prompt Hub collects example prompts by use, such as classification, coding and text summarization. Each example page shows the full prompt with replaceable inputs, and some add an API example and the model used for testing, such as GPT-4 or Mixtral. What sets it apart is that it explains the reasoning and gives examples you can copy as is, which suits people who want to understand why a prompt is written the way it is.

Who it's for:people who want to learn prompt writing properly, or who need an introductory guide for a team.

Before you start: reading and copying are free, with no sign-up and nothing to install. Some links in the Chinese menu don't open; the English edition has the same examples. The top of the pages and the home page advertise paid DAIR.AI Academy courses, which cost extra. The Adversarial Prompting section includes "jailbreak" examples that try to get past model safety limits, published for research and teaching; we don't recommend using them. Whether you pay to run an example depends on the AI service you use.

Based on the official site and the project's public documentation. Not tested by AI Inspiration World.

How to use it

  1. Start with the basics and the prompting techniques to learn the common patterns.
  2. Find an example by use in the Prompt Hub, copy the prompt and swap in your own input.
  3. If a Chinese link doesn't open, switch to the English edition for the same example.

What we noticed

  • The Adversarial Prompting section includes "jailbreak" examples for research and teaching; we don't recommend using them.
  • Pages advertise paid DAIR.AI Academy courses; you don't need them to read the guide or the examples.
