What it is
The ArtCraft Crafting Apps are a set of seven creative tools from the ArtCraft team: PhotoCraft, VectorCraft, FilmCraft, LightCraft, PdfCraft, EffectCraft and DesignCraft. The official site describes them as "built for automation and AI agents": each can be controlled through a command line, JSON instructions and MCP (Model Context Protocol, a way for AI to call outside tools), so besides working in them yourself, you can have an AI agent open, edit and export files for you. That's what sets them apart from ordinary creative software. All seven are open source, and PhotoCraft alone has more than 27,000 stars on GitHub.
Who it's for:Creators who want free creative software and would like to try handing batch image and document work to an AI agent; people who already use AI coding assistants will pick it up faster.
Before you start: These are mainly desktop programs for macOS, Windows and Linux, available as installers or built from source; six of them (all but FilmCraft) can also be compiled for the web, but you host that yourself. PhotoCraft and PdfCraft are currently early alpha and the rest are still in development, so don't expect the features or stability of mature professional software. The site mentions compatibility with Adobe file formats and workflows, which doesn't mean Adobe endorses them. The code is free under your choice of the MIT or Apache-2.0 license; branding, fonts and third-party assets have their own terms. The site says files are processed on your machine rather than in the cloud, but an AI agent operating these tools can read and change your local files, so decide carefully how much access you give it. The ArtCraft main site also offers a paid AI image and video studio; that's a separate product from these seven free tools.
