What it is
taste-skill is a set of design Skills open-sourced by GitHub user Leonxlnx. The README says its goal is to give AI good taste and stop it from producing the same generic interfaces. The main Skill first has the AI read the page type, audience and intended feel, then plans the design around three adjustable values: design variance, motion intensity and visual density. The rules are concrete: one accent color per page, no Inter as the default font, steering away from a centered hero over three equal cards, a stated reason for every animation, and respect for users who turn on reduced motion. The repo also holds style variants such as minimalist and brutalist, a redesign-skill for reworking existing pages, and image Skills that pair with outside image generators to make design reference boards. What sets it apart is that it breaks "taste" into rules you can check, down to banning em dashes on the page.
Who it's for:people who build landing pages, portfolios or site redesigns with an AI coding agent and find the results too template-like. Readers who don't code or use AI coding tools won't get much from it.
Before you start: install the whole repo or a single Skill with npx skills add, or copy a SKILL.md into your project; the README says you can also paste it into a ChatGPT or Codex conversation. The README names Codex, Cursor and Claude Code, and says the rules target design intent rather than one framework, though the main Skill's code examples are written for React, Next.js and Tailwind. The default v2 is marked experimental and still changing. The image Skills rely on outside image generators, whose pricing and terms apply. The repo also has a scripts folder the README doesn't explain, so look through it before installing. The license is MIT. The README page carries third-party promotional links, and the author states that any token project using his name is not his.
