What it is
sprite-gen by aldegad comes as both a Skill for Codex and Claude and a Python CLI. Give it one character image, choose a sprite sheet or a looping video animation, and confirm how to generate it. It extracts frames with transparent backgrounds, and an optional review screen lets you pick the frames you want. The author built it to close the gap between having a character image and having animation frames that drop straight into a game.
Who it's for:Indie game developers and pixel artists who need character animation assets.
Before you start: Install the Skill as the author describes, or the CLI with pip install -e .; the video path also needs FFmpeg and img2webp. Generation sends your reference image and request to Grok or the image model you configure. It reads the auth.json that Grok's local sign-in leaves behind first, so it reuses your existing login. The author separates using an existing Codex, Grok or Claude subscription from paying per call with an API key, warns before API calls, and does not top up automatically. Docs are mainly in English.
