What it is
Planning with Files is a skill by Ahmad Adi (GitHub: OthmanAdi). The README describes it as "persistent file-based planning for AI coding agents and long-running agent tasks." Once installed, the agent maintains three files in your project: task_plan.md for the plan, findings.md for what it learns and progress.md for where it is. The author says it works with more than 60 agent tools, including Claude Code and Codex. What sets it apart is that the plan lives in plain Markdown files, so you can open them and see what the agent intends to do and how far it has got.
Who it's for:Developers who hand big tasks to an AI coding agent and worry it will lose track of the plan along the way. Readers who don't write code won't get much use from it.
Before you start: Install from the README and the installation guide. It uses Bash and Python helper scripts, and Windows needs the extra steps in the guide. It turns on lifecycle hooks: each turn adds the plan to the agent's context, and a stop gate can block the agent from finishing. A manual copy-install brings these hooks too. An optional catchup mode can read local session logs from the same project. AI Inspiration World does not recommend turning it on in projects with sensitive content: it pulls your earlier conversations back up and hands them to the agent. The code is free under the MIT license; your model may cost extra.
