What it is
Oil UI is a UI design Skill by GitHub user oil-oil for websites, apps, dashboards and components. By default it recommends one direction and refines it against real screenshots; when you want to compare, it puts several genuinely different directions on one comparison page for you to pick from. Before it starts, it works out what kind of product this is, studies the two or three most distinctive products in that category, and turns words like "premium" or "clean" into concrete type, spacing and colour choices. What sets it apart is that in a comparison, any two directions may share at most one of layout, type, palette and key visual.
Highlights:
- The comparison page takes HTML, images or a running page, with desktop and phone sizes
- it screenshots the result at both sizes to check it
- you can ask for a review only, with no files changed
- the author also sells a paid Oil UI Pro.
How to use:
- First run npx skills add oil-oil/oil-ui, or hand that line to an agent that can install Skills.
- Then tell the agent the job, for example "Make three designs with different type, palette and layout and put them on a comparison page."
- Finally click Select on the page you like and send the copied line back to the agent.
Who it's for:
Designers and developers building site, app and dashboard UIs who want AI designs that don't all look alike.
Before you start:
- It works once installed with no extra setup; the version check needs Python 3.
- Each time you use it, it checks for a new version online at most every 10 minutes, reading only the public version list on ui.oiloil.org, and the README says it uploads nothing from your project; set OIL_NO_UPDATE_CHECK=1 to turn this off.
- Drafts and screenshots go into a .oil-ui folder in your project.
- The open-source version is free; Pro is a separate purchase.
- MIT license.
