Oh Story

Oh Story is an open-source web-novel writing kit by ZenStory AI. It installs as 13 Skills into the coding agent you already use and writes with that agent's model, with no GPU needed. It covers the workflow for long and short web fiction: scanning charts for ideas, breaking down the pacing and plots of hits, outlining and drafting, de-AI editing and cover images, aimed at Chinese platforms such as Qidian, Fanqie, Jinjiang, Qimao and Zhihu Yanyan. Settings, outlines, chapters and tracking notes are kept as separate files, so after a new session or a compacted context it can restore progress, foreshadowing and promises still to be paid off. It checks the detailed outline before drafting and checks for truncation and common AI phrasing afterwards. What sets it apart is that it uses the file system as memory for long-form writing: the author sets the direction and the agent follows the approved plan. It supports 7 agents, including Claude Code, Codex CLI and OpenCode.

Before you start: install with npx skills add, a third-party installer that downloads files, then run story-setup in your writing project. It copies scripts and agent configs into the project, merges rule files such as CLAUDE.md, and installs several hooks, scripts that run automatically when a session starts or ends and before or after file writes. It checks GitHub for updates at most once a day; set STORY_NO_UPDATE_CHECK=1 to turn that off. We recommend only its local planning, drafting, revising and import features. We don't recommend the browser-cdp entry or the automatic chart scanning and collection that rely on it: it copies your Chrome profile and cookies, reads sites' login tokens, and may close and reopen Chrome. Covers made through an outside API need their own key, upload your reference images and cost money. Novels from other authors used for chart scanning and breakdowns remain their authors' copyright.
