MCP Unity

MCP Unity is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) plugin by GitHub user CoderGamester; the README says it allows AI assistants to interact with your Unity projects. It has two parts: a plugin you add to your Unity project and a Node program that runs on your machine and connects your AI tool to Unity. Once connected, the AI can query and edit scenes, objects and components, run tests, compile scripts, run menu commands and make batch changes. The plugin has no AI model of its own, so you use it with an AI tool such as Claude Code or Cursor. What sets it apart is that the AI works directly on your Unity project instead of only handing you code in a chat.

Who it's for:Unity developers who want an AI coding tool to work in the editor directly. Readers who don't write code won't be able to use it.

Before you start: You need Unity 6 or later and Node 18 or later; install the plugin with Unity's Package Manager, then set up MCP in your AI tool. By default it talks only on your own machine and checks a project token; scene, object and log information goes to the AI tool and model you use. The AI can run menu items, run tests and change project files. We don't recommend turning on remote connections, which are unencrypted, enabling package installs, which are off by default, or letting the AI run menu commands without confirmation. Use it on a copy of a project you trust and confirm each step. The repository is free under the MIT licence; AI tools and Unity charge under their own terms.
