What it is
docx is the Skill in Anthropic's official skills repository for Word documents. A .docx file is really a ZIP archive of XML files, and the Skill picks its approach by task: it writes new documents with docx-js scripts, reads documents by converting them to Markdown with pandoc, and edits existing files by unzipping them, changing document.xml directly and zipping them back up. It handles tracked changes with author attribution, comments, tables and tables of contents, and flags common trouble spots such as page size and table width. LibreOffice is used for conversion and validation.
Who it's for:anyone who regularly has AI draft or revise contracts, reports and other Word files.
Before you start: written for Claude. It needs tools such as Node.js, pandoc and LibreOffice. It uses Anthropic's proprietary license: the source is viewable, but it is not open source. See LICENSE.txt in the repository for the terms.
