What it is

The Designer Skills Pack is a design skill set that MC Dean (GitHub user Owl-Listener) wrote for AI agents, supporting Claude Code and Gemini CLI. This repo itself holds 111 Skills and 34 commands in 9 plugins: design research, design systems, UX strategy, UI design, interaction design, prototyping and testing, design ops, the designer's toolkit, and visual critique, and you can install only the ones you need. Skills are knowledge, such as how to write non-leading interview questions or how to set a type scale and motion durations. Commands are full workflows that chain several Skills: /visual-critique:critique-screen takes a screenshot, checks it on seven fronts including hierarchy, brand consistency, composition, typography and color, and returns a prioritized fix list, while /design-research:interview prepares an interview guide or turns a transcript into themes, quotes and action items. If you're not sure where to begin, run /designer-toolkit:start-here and describe what you're working on; it names the command to run now, the two that follow, and the stages you can skip. What sets it apart is that every Skill's description says when to switch to a neighboring Skill, for example design-critique for a team session and heuristic-evaluation for a solo expert review. The author says in the README that the goal is to write design judgment down plainly so an agent has less to guess.

Who it's for:designers, product managers, and anyone who wants AI help with user research or with checking an interface's visuals and usability. You work by talking to the agent, and the README says no coding is needed, but you do need Claude Code or Gemini CLI set up first.

Before you start: in Claude Code, run /plugin marketplace add Owl-Listener/designer-skills, then tick the plugins you want in the Discover list, or install one with /plugin install plugin-name@designer-skills. For Gemini CLI, copy the repo's extension folders into your project. The 273 Skills on the README's front page is the total across the author's five collections, and this marketplace also lists plugins from four other repos (AI product design, UX program management, design leadership and inclusive design). This entry covers only the 9 plugins in this repo; AI Inspiration World hasn't reviewed the other four repos and doesn't suggest installing everything by default. The repo is mainly Markdown text, with nothing we saw that asks for an API key, uploads files automatically or publishes anything; the AI tool you run it in may charge, so check its official site. Skills such as interview summaries read the transcripts and research material you provide, so get participants' consent and anonymize the data first. These Skills are method guides; they don't replace real user research and aren't a formal accessibility certification. The Skills are written in English, and the license is MIT.

Based on the project's public documentation. Not tested by AI Inspiration World.
