What it is

career-ops was created by Santiago Fernández de Valderrama (GitHub user santifer) and is now maintained under career-ops-hq. The README calls it an open-source AI job search agent. It runs inside AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and Gemini, on Windows, macOS and Linux. The default core finds jobs through the public APIs and public pages of applicant tracking systems (ATS) such as Ashby, Greenhouse and Lever, with no key needed. The AI tailors your materials from your CV and experience, finds contacts, and drafts emails and LinkedIn messages that you decide whether to send. The autofill feature uses Playwright to fill text fields and dropdowns only; the README says it never submits, so you press Submit yourself. When it builds a PDF, a fact check blocks numbers and claims it cannot trace to your source material.

Who it's for:Job seekers who are comfortable in a terminal and want AI to connect job search, CV tailoring and application tracking. Readers who don't use the command line will find setup hard.

Before you start: Install with npx @santifer/career-ops init, which clones the release and runs npm install, or install globally with npm -g. It requires Node ^22.13 or >=23.4. Installation automatically runs npx playwright install chromium and downloads a Chromium browser; this step can be skipped through configuration. You can set up scheduled scans yourself (cron, launchd or Windows Task Scheduler); none run by default. Your CV, experience and application records stay in the local project folder. The README says your CV goes to the AI provider you choose and not to the author; you can also use a local Ollama model. LinkedIn network matching uses the Connections.csv you export from LinkedIn yourself. That file holds other people's personal data, so keep it away from cloud models. The fact check can be bypassed with --skip-fact-check and does not catch every rewrite, so check autofilled forms and generated CVs before you submit. AI Inspiration World does not recommend the optional Apify, Gmail and Notion plugins: they connect to your email, notes and third-party scraping services, and we have not reviewed them. The project itself is free; cloud models and AI CLI subscriptions bill separately, and outside search tools or plugins may need their own keys or fees. MIT license.

Based on the project's public documentation. Not tested by AI Inspiration World.
