What it is
astrolog-mcp is a Western astrology MCP server by GitHub user 0xctx. MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is how AI assistants call outside tools. It runs the Astrolog program and the Swiss Ephemeris on your own computer to work out planet positions, houses, aspects, transits, and more, then hands the numbers to the assistant in an MCP client such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, or Cursor. The author describes it as facts, not fortune-telling: it returns numbers, and your assistant does the interpreting. Its emphasis is precision. The author stresses that it uses real ephemeris maths rather than an LLM's guess, and city lookups come from offline GeoNames tables, with no live geocoding service or API key.
Who it's for:People comfortable with the command line who want their AI assistant to discuss astrology from an exact chart. Not useful if you don't write code.
Before you start: You need Node.js 22.2 or later, plus make, tar, and a C/C++ compiler. It runs on Linux and macOS, and on Windows only through WSL2. Installing downloads the Astrolog source and builds it on your computer, then downloads about 127 MB of ephemeris files and the GeoNames tables. The author says there are no accounts, birth data isn't logged, and nothing is kept after a call, but your birth details and questions are processed by the AI service you use. It can also run as a remote HTTP server, which by default is open to the network with no login protection, so AI Inspiration World only recommends connecting locally over stdio. AGPL-3.0 license. AI Inspiration World does not recommend using it for health, medical, or investment decisions.
Based on the project's public documentation. Not tested by AI Inspiration World.
