About the film

Pexote Jack is a comedy series created, written and directed by Hoyt Dwyer; what's out so far is the pilot, Ohio!, about five minutes long. Its hero is a washed-up 1930s cartoon jackalope who learns he's been digitised and replaced by a more efficient AI double. In a festival interview Dwyer gets specific: the characters were animated with JSON prompts in Google Veo 3 on chroma-key backgrounds, with ComfyUI, Flux Kontext, Midjourney, ElevenLabs and Topaz Astra also in the mix. The pilot received an Honorable Mention in the experimental category at AI Film Festival Japan 2025, and won Best Comical Short and Best Animated Short for the August to September 2025 season at AI International Film Festivals.

Who it's for:viewers who love old-school cartoons and comedy that pokes fun at the industry.

Before you watch: the pilot plays on the Pexote Jack page of Dwyer's website, listed at 5 minutes 15 seconds. The festival's version on Eventive is listed at five minutes and needs an account and payment to unlock; whether they're the same cut isn't stated. The film is in English; subtitles aren't stated. Other episodes don't have public links yet. We haven't watched the whole film.
