The Tang Son-in-Law: My Sister Is the Crown Princess

The Tang Son-in-Law: My Sister Is the Crown Princess is a palace time-travel drama on Hongguo, a Chinese short-drama platform, with 4 seasons and 688 episodes. The official synopsis for Season 1 says a modern engineering PhD wakes up in the Tang dynasty as Su Hao, cousin of the Crown Princess, whom people call "Su the Simpleton." To repay the cousin who raised him, he cures the Crown Prince's bad leg, refines salt to break the great clans' hold, builds iron stoves and makes white sugar, using knowledge far ahead of its time to clear her path. In later seasons the clans' assassination attempts and revenge grow fiercer, and by Season 4 Su Hao works the court and the palace with medicine, bookkeeping and business deals. The appeal is watching him win on skill, as one modern invention after another proves useful at the Tang court. Hongguo lists Season 4 as an AI drama, and Season 3 appeared in the "Hot AI Dramas" section of Hongguo's homepage on October 7. The pages for Seasons 1 and 2 are only labeled as animated dramas and don't say whether AI was used. The season table on this page shows each season's status. Hongguo doesn't say which AI tools were used or who produced it. The platform gives no English title, so the one here is our translation.

Who it's for:viewers who enjoy palace intrigue and heroes who use modern knowledge to get out of tight spots.

Before you watch: start with Season 1, since each season picks up from the last. Hongguo's website asks you to log in before playing, or you can use the Hongguo app. The app's promo says every episode is free, but the page doesn't explain how. The official synopses for Seasons 2 and 3 include assassinations and bloody revenge; we haven't watched it, so we can't say how violent it gets. The pages don't list the dialogue language, subtitles or episode length.
