About the film

A Little Water Bear is a three-minute science fiction short by Vincent Marie, set in the microscopic world of a tardigrade. The Vimeo description notes that these animals have survived five mass extinctions, can endure the vacuum of space, and can wait decades before reviving. When the water runs out, a young tardigrade's grandfather is left in suspended animation, and the young one crosses unfamiliar ground alone to find what his family needs. The film took second place, with a $3,000 prize, at Curious Refuge's first AI Feel-Good Film Competition in 2026. The competition required AI in every shot; the creator hasn't said which tools he used, and his description frames the film as a story about small heroes looking after the people they love.

Who it's for:People who enjoy small-creature adventure stories. It also works for watching with kids.
