What it is
WINTERING is a top-down winter survival action game from the independent studio CSAF. You chop wood, dig and gather materials, craft torches, tools and campfires, and keep an eye on warmth, food and light as they drop in real time. Wolves lunge at you, and you can lure boars into running into trees. The developer says the code and text were written with AI and the art comes from the studio's own AI-generated asset packs; the sound and music were synthesized and composed by their own programs. The first three days are free to play in the browser. The full ten-day version is a paid 64-bit Windows download; see the game page for the price.
Who it's for: Players who like resource management and survival pressure and want to try a few days in the browser before deciding.
Before you start: English only. It supports keyboard, gamepad and touch, but the page doesn't say which phones it runs on. There's no formal age rating; it involves fights with wild animals and survival through hunger and cold. The page doesn't say whether it needs a microphone or camera, or whether scores are recorded online. The Windows download isn't code-signed, and the game page warns that your system may block it the first time you run it.
