What it is
Stolen Hero: The Wandering Soul is a puzzle adventure made in Godot by solo developer Pale Candle, currently available as a free demo. The hero, Leon, wakes in the Ashen Manor as a ghost in the shape of a small child. The game is built on possession. A ghost can't touch the world, so he slips into monsters such as slimes, golems, bats, or skeletons, and you pick the right body and switch between them to solve the manor's puzzles. The demo covers the prologue and the four chapters of Act 1, which the author says take about 1.5 to 2 hours. The full game is still in development. The author says the code was written with AI coding assistance, the illustrations, short videos, background music, and many sound effects were made with AI generation tools and then selected and refined by the developer, and the text and translations had AI writing assistance with the developer's review. Nothing is generated live while you play.
Who it's for: Puzzle fans who like a dark fairy-tale mood and taking their time.
Before you start: You can play in the browser or download versions for Windows, macOS, or Linux; we only read the web version's notes and didn't download anything. The author says mouse clicks and on-screen touch buttons on phones both work; we haven't tested them. It supports Korean, English, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese. The game autosaves and has three save slots, and in the browser version saves stay in that browser. The author says demo saves may not carry over to the full game. If you agree the first time you start, the game sends anonymous play stats to the author, such as chapter, boss wins and losses, deaths, language, and a random device ID. The author says it never sends your name, email, save contents, or anything you type, that you can switch it on or off in the title menu, and that saying no doesn't affect the game. The demo is free; check the game page for current terms. The story includes a saint, an exorcist, and a holy lantern whose light burns souls, all part of a fictional dark fantasy. We haven't checked screenshots for how much blood is shown. No license is given.
