What it is
Skaldsong is a multiplayer role-playing platform from Fenris Labs, released on Steam in September 2025. The store page describes it as combining the deep mechanics of classic CRPGs with the narrative freedom of tabletop role-playing. Play is mostly text, alongside graphical elements such as character sheets and inventory windows. You can play solo or in an online group. The game master can be the built-in AI or a human, and a human game master can run the game without any AI at all. The AI game master writes text based on the story and players' actions, generates images of characters, locations and items, and has its replies read aloud by a local voice model.
Who it's for: players who enjoy tabletop games like D&D and want to run sessions online with friends, and game masters looking for a helper tool.
Before you start: free to download on Steam, with the core software and multiplayer free of charge. The AI game master comes with a number of free actions each day, and unlimited use requires a subscription; see the store page for current pricing. English only for now.
