What it is
It's a calm day in the meadow until someone runs off with your cat, and all you have is your scarf. SCARF is a platformer by FOKO GAMES for the Sega Master System, and it takes you through four worlds and into a final castle. You pick your hero on the title screen; button 1 swings the scarf, button 2 jumps (hold it to jump higher), and pressing up in front of a shop takes you inside. The AI disclosure on the itch.io page says AI helped with the code, without naming a model; it was made with GBDK-2020. What you download is a .sms game file, a brand-new game for an old console.
Who it's for: players who love retro pixel platformers and have a Master System emulator handy.
Before you start: download the .sms file (about 512 KB) and run it in a Sega Master System emulator or compatible device; it doesn't play in the browser. The page doesn't name an emulator, and we haven't tried one. It's name your own price; check the store page. The page text is in English and Spanish, and the full list of in-game languages isn't given. The game has cartoon combat, swinging the scarf at enemies and bosses. The page gives no license for the game as a whole and no age rating; some of the art assets carry their own licenses (for example OGA-BY 3.0 and CC0).
