What it is
Panache is a browser real-time strategy game by menufactory43, adapted from Simon Willison's Battle Drones. It keeps the original code and restyles it in French Belle Époque steampunk, with airships and automatons as units, and the whole game is in French. Simon Willison says he made Battle Drones with vibe coding, and his blog calls Panache "already a French language fork" of it. He also says the adaptation's changes are mostly visual. The adapter hasn't said whether they used AI for their own changes.
Who it's for: French-speaking players who like real-time strategy and steampunk art, and anyone curious how far one set of AI-written code can be adapted.
Before you start: It runs in the browser, and the author says it works on phones; the public page shows no paywall. The page and game are in French. Online play goes through the adapter's own Cloudflare relay: you join with a 4-letter room code, and your seat key is kept in the browser; empty rooms are cleared about a minute after everyone leaves, with a 12-hour maximum. Because this relay differs from the original's, the original's "stores nothing" description doesn't automatically apply. The repository still includes the original's audio-link notes, but its microphone code wasn't checked in detail. The code is Apache-2.0 licensed, like the original; rights to third-party assets follow the repository's notes.
Based on the game page, the project repository and the original author's blog. Not tested by AI Inspiration World.
