What it is
NAM '68 (also called VIETNAM '68) is a turn-based grid tactics game set in the Vietnam War, made by itch.io creator Goliath86. You lead a squad of four with different roles, spending action points each turn to move, attack and change facing. You need to use cover, deal with wounds and rescue your people, and watch for enemy patrols and ambushes. Maps include historical ones and procedurally generated ones, and six tutorial missions get you started. In the first release devlog, the author says the project was started with the help of an LLM. The source code is public on GitHub and comes with a sample mod you can follow to add your own content.
Who it's for: Players who like turn-based tactics and are interested in the Vietnam War setting.
Before you start: The browser version is free and needs no login. The author says it works on desktop and mobile, and the README covers touch controls. The interface is in English and Italian. The game saves automatically to your browser every turn. It includes weapons such as grenades and artillery, and shows wounds and bleeding as both visuals and game mechanics, so keep that in mind if this kind of content bothers you. The source code is under the GPL-3.0 license.
