Latch

What it is

Latch is a precision 2D parkour game built in Godot by the small studio Essential Code. You can't jump: you aim with the mouse, hold the left button or E to latch onto a pad, and release to fling yourself off, steering in the air with A and D or the arrow keys. There are 32 courses across 4 chapters, each lasting from a few seconds to about a minute and a half. Every course has three stars, for clearing it, beating the time and finishing at or under par latches, and the Anchor Spire at the finish awards three medal tiers depending on how high you hit it. Clearing the first chapter unlocks the Gauntlet, where each run shuffles 12 hand-made chunks and gives you 3 lives. The studio says it used AI tools for the code, art and sound, with human direction. What sets it apart is that the whole game rests on one move, latch and release, so everything comes down to mastering momentum.

Who it's for: players who like hard parkour games and don't mind replaying a course to shave off time.

Before you start: you can play free in the browser or download it for Windows or Linux, which the studio says feels best. It needs a keyboard and mouse. The page is in English, and the game is still in development. There's no privacy notice on the page, and it doesn't say where personal bests are stored.
