What it is
Last Stand For Our Land: Gladiator is a Windows physics arena fighter from DynamicalEngine. You take up swords, spears, flails and shields and face wave after wave in the arena; the first 30 waves are hand-designed and after that they generate endlessly. Up to 5 people can play at once: one in a VR headset and up to four more on local split-screen, with player-versus-player and computer opponents each switchable on or off. What sets it apart is that every movement is physically simulated. The author trained a neural network with reinforcement learning to set targets for each joint motor, so how a fighter stands and swings is worked out live, joint by joint. The author also states that no generative AI was used.
Who it's for: Players who enjoy physics combat and local multiplayer, and anyone curious to see reinforcement learning drive a game character's movement.
Before you start: Windows only, playable with keyboard and mouse, a controller or several VR headsets. The download is about 419 MB and the interface is in English. The page uses name-your-own-price, so check the game page. Joint injuries can sever limbs, and losing the head or spine kills a fighter. The public screenshots show metal armour, weapons and sparks with no realistic gore, but we have not run the game and cannot promise there is no blood. There is no official age rating, and it is not suitable for young children. No licence or privacy policy is stated.
