What it is
Field Notes is a 3D nature game by shoggi21, currently released as a free demo. You take over a naturalists' society field station, a dinghy and a journal whose second half was left empty on purpose. Forty years ago someone recorded everything that lived on these isles, and now it's your turn. The rule is to photograph, not collect. You raise your camera, wait for the right moment and take the shot, and each photo is graded on framing, light, distance and what the animal was doing, then redrawn as a pencil sketch in your journal. You also sail between the isles, trimming the sail and tacking round headlands. You can sow a wildflower meadow, clear old net from the puffin ledges, and build a home anywhere from more than 130 pieces. There's no combat, no timer and no fail state. The demo covers the first two isles and the first five commissions, and the author says it plays for about an hour or two; saves carry over to the full game. The author's AI disclosure on the page lists AI assistance for code only. The animal, nature and character models come from the asset creators credited on the page.
Who it's for: Players who want a quiet, slow game about nature photography and home building.
