What it is
Start with one neuron and a dream, and train it all the way into an AGI core. Build-A-Model is a Windows incremental game by the itch.io creator qivet, still marked as a prototype. You click to run training steps, buy used GPUs and scrape web data to speed things up, and progress keeps building while you're away. As the model grows it picks up funny new abilities, like being able to count to ten while disputing the existence of eleven. When progress slows, you can Train a New Model: the run resets, you earn Model Generations, and you spend them on a permanent upgrade tree so each run goes faster. The creator's AI disclosure on the page says AI helped with the code, graphics, sounds and text, without naming a model; the game is made in Godot 4.7. The creator says a first run takes about 20 minutes and the tree keeps you going for hours.
Who it's for: fans of idle and clicker games, and readers who'd like to pick up terms like backpropagation and transformers while they play.
Before you start: it's Windows 64-bit only, as a download of about 38 MB, and it doesn't run in the browser. The page lists it among free games; check the store page for pricing. The creator says there are no accounts, no ads, no internet connection and no data collected, which we haven't verified by running it. The training, GPU buying and data scraping are all part of the game and don't train a real model on your computer. The page and screenshots are in English. The page gives no reuse license or age rating.
