What it is
Ashes of Meridian is a browser real-time strategy (RTS) game by itch.io user mkt (account mktcode), who calls it a development prototype. You explore the map, choose where to build your base, gather resources, raise an army, and destroy your rivals, and later stages turn into free-for-all battles against several AI opponents. What sets it apart is that the RTS battles sit inside roguelite expeditions: each win earns a bonus for the battles ahead, and your fleet gets permanent upgrades. The author says the code is 100% AI and that, despite some developer experience, they haven't looked at the code yet. The game page doesn't name the model.
Who it's for: RTS fans who don't mind an early prototype that still has rough edges.
Before you start: It runs in a browser with WebGL2 and works with mouse or touch; we haven't tested how it runs on phones. The author warns there are still bugs and performance issues. English only. Progress and battle saves are stored in your own browser, and clearing browser data deletes them. The game page describes single-player expeditions but also lists server-based multiplayer, and the author has posted about an online multiplayer prototype; we haven't checked the multiplayer mode. The source code is public on GitHub, but the repo has no license. We only recommend the web version and don't suggest building it on your own computer from the README. The page lists it as free; check the game page for current terms.
