What it is
AI Roguelite is a text role-playing game by solo developer Max Loh. It entered Early Access on Steam in March 2022 and fully launched in October 2023. According to the store page, every location, NPC, enemy, item, crafting recipe and game mechanic is decided by AI. You type what you want to do, and whether an attack succeeds depends on how plausible the action is, plus attribute checks and dice rolls. When crafting, the AI decides what a combination of ingredients produces. Every character and item gets an AI-generated illustration, and you can bring up to four companions in your party.
Who it's for: players who enjoy text adventures and want to see what a game world generated almost entirely by AI looks like.
Before you start: a paid game on Steam; see the store page for current pricing. For the AI, you can use the game's free or paid cloud service, connect custom APIs such as OpenRouter or LM Studio, or run local models on a capable graphics card. The interface supports 25 languages, including Chinese. The store page notes that the game heavily uses AI to generate text, images and sound effects in real time.
