What it is
ZCue is a small Windows tool by GitHub user Zevxn for typing your go-to AI prompts quickly. You save prompts as templates. Later, in a supported text box, you type a template's name in pinyin or its initials, pick it from the pop-up list, and ZCue deletes what you typed and puts the full prompt in its place. The README says it is meant for people who reuse the same prompts across several AI coding assistants and multi-model chat clients, naming Codex, OpenCode and Cherry Studio as examples. Templates can be grouped and can reference each other, and they can pull in variables such as the date, the time or what is on your clipboard. You can import and export them as JSON. It isn't tied to any one AI client: your prompts live on your own computer and work in whatever text box you are typing in.
Who it's for:Windows users who work with several AI tools every day and keep a stack of prompts they reuse.
Before you start: It runs on Windows only; the README lists Windows 11. The releases page has a ready-made zip (ZCue-v1.2.5-win-x64.zip) that runs after unzipping, but you need the .NET 8 Desktop Runtime (x64) installed first. You can also build it yourself with the .NET 8 SDK, as the README shows. The interface and docs are in Chinese. The tool watches keyboard input across the whole computer, reads a little of the text just before your cursor, reads and writes the clipboard, and can be set to start when you log in. We read the source code of a fixed version and saw no code that logs, saves or sends what you type. It goes online only to check for and download updates, and it replaces its own program files only after you choose to update. That comes from reading the code, not from installing it, and we don't recommend it. Your saved templates are stored as plain text on your computer. It is an early personal project under the MIT license.
