What it is
WordCraft is the word processor in the "Craft" series from the ArtCraft team at the storytold organization, and it edits and lays out DOCX and PDF documents. The README says "WordCraft was designed to be driven by people *and* by AI agents." Alongside the normal desktop interface it offers a CLI and an MCP server, so an AI agent can read and write documents and adjust their layout. The author describes it as a clean-room reimplementation of Microsoft Word, meaning it was rebuilt from the features without using the original code. It has no connection to Microsoft and is not an official product. It runs on macOS, Windows, Linux, FreeBSD and in the browser through WebAssembly.
Who it's for:people who want to write and lay out documents locally, or have an AI agent edit Word documents directly.
Before you start: download a release build or build it from source. It is free, and the README says no account is needed. In headless MCP mode, the folders it can read and write are limited by the --automation-read-root and --automation-write-root options. The optional --control port lets an agent take screenshots, click, press keys and run macros. This project may control your computer, phone, or many account permissions. AI Inspiration World has not tested it and does not recommend it. The first release, v0.1.0, came out on October 7, 2026, so the project is very new. Licensed under MIT or Apache-2.0, at your choice; the ArtCraft name and logo are covered by a separate trademark license. Based on the project's public documentation. Not tested by AI Inspiration World.
