What it is
Talvio is an open-source app by GitHub user ishangautam7, for Windows, macOS and Linux, with an Android phone app. Hold a shortcut key and talk, and the text appears in whatever app your cursor is in. It also has a voice assistant that can answer questions and act on your computer, and a feature that records meetings and writes notes. By default speech is transcribed on your own computer and not uploaded; cloud services are optional and use your own key. The optional AI cleanup removes filler words and applies spoken corrections. What stands out is that the phone can act as a wireless mic and remote, and can also watch the computer's screen.
Highlights:
- Dictate into any app, with text appearing at the cursor
- Speech is transcribed locally by default, with cloud services optional
- A voice assistant answers questions and runs voice commands
- The phone app works as a wireless mic and remote
How to use:
- First, download the installer for your system from the Releases page.
- Then give it Microphone and Accessibility permission when asked, and pick a speech model.
- Finally, hold the shortcut and talk; the text appears at the cursor.
Who it's for:
People who want to type less and are happy to control their computer by voice.
Before you start:
- The macOS build is not Apple-signed yet, so the README has you run one xattr command to allow it, and the app asks the system for Microphone and Accessibility permission.
- The voice assistant can act on your computer and the phone app can see its screen. With screen vision on, screenshots may be sent to the cloud model you choose, and meeting transcripts may be sent to a cloud model to make notes.
- If you use these features, weigh the safety risks yourself. AI Inspiration World is not responsible for any consequences.
- Only cloud services you set up yourself receive data, API keys are kept in the system keychain, and those services' charges apply.
