SayKuku is an open-source macOS voice input app from UllrAI on GitHub. Hold or tap the Fn key and speak, and the text lands where your cursor was. Double-tap Fn to open the Voice Agent, which can draft text and answer questions, and can rewrite or translate whatever you've selected. It remembers names and terms you've approved, and keeps a searchable history you can replay. Speech recognition and rewriting run on Alibaba Cloud's Qwen models in the cloud. In the release post on V2EX, the author says the app was vibe coded, without naming the AI coding tool. What sets it apart is that the voice assistant can read your selection and rewrite it inside other apps, and it asks before running a Shortcut or opening an untrusted link.
Who it's for:people who write a lot on a Mac and would rather speak than type, and who are willing to get their own Alibaba Cloud API key and send their voice to the cloud.
Before you start: you need macOS 14 or later and an internet connection. The app is free under the Apache-2.0 license, but it runs on your own Alibaba Cloud Model Studio API key, and model charges go to your Alibaba Cloud account; check Alibaba Cloud for pricing. It needs Microphone and Accessibility permissions. With Accessibility, it watches shortcut-related keyboard and mouse actions across all apps and can read and write text in other apps. The README says it doesn't request Input Monitoring permission or record keystrokes. Your speech is sent to the Qwen region you choose. By default the Voice Agent also sends your selected text, the current app, the window title and visible window text (up to 2,000 characters), and each of these can be switched off under Settings, Privacy. History, memory and recordings stay on your computer and are kept for 30 days by default. Release builds send anonymous usage statistics by default, which you can turn off. The README says the download is signed and notarized; we haven't verified this.
