What it is
rtk is a developer tool from RTK AI Labs (GitHub: rtk-ai). It intercepts the shell commands your agent runs and compresses their output before the agent reads it; in the README's words, "RTK intercepts shell commands and compresses their output before your agent reads it." It leaves the model alone and works only on the terminal output fed into it. After installing, rtk init writes hooks or rules for several coding agents. An optional rtk-proxy runs locally and handles model API traffic. It supports macOS, Linux, and Windows.
Who it's for:Programmers who use coding agents such as Claude Code or Codex and deal with long terminal output. It is of no use if you don't write code.
Before you start: You can install it with brew, winget, or the official install script. AI Inspiration World does not recommend piping a remote script into sh with curl, because that runs a downloaded script directly on your computer. rtk init rewrites hook or rule files for several agents, so check what it changes before installing. The optional rtk-proxy handles your API requests and credentials and forwards them to the model service you configure. The README says telemetry is off by default, needs your explicit consent, and does not collect command or file contents. Local use needs no platform account. The license has two parts: the CLI and rtk-oss are Apache-2.0; the engine and proxy are BUSL-1.1, which allows production use but not offering them as a paid or hosted service, and they convert to Apache-2.0 after 2030-09-09.
Based on the project's public documentation. Not tested by AI Inspiration World.
