What it is

Reactive Resume is an open-source resume builder started by Amruth Pillai, and it also keeps a record of your job applications. You can connect OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, OpenRouter, Ollama or another compatible endpoint, and use AI to edit your resume, prepare for interviews and run mock practice. The repository ships 8 official Agent Skills, including resume-tailor, mock-interview and job-application-manager. You install them with npx skills or copy them by hand, then point them over MCP at the hosted service or your own instance. The job-application-manager instructions say the user sends everything: the AI drafts and logs, and it never submits an application, sends a message or accepts an offer for you. The Skills also limit themselves to your resume, the job posting and facts you provide, with no invented numbers, contacts or work history, and mock-interview declines to feed answers if you say the interview is happening now.

Who it's for:Job seekers who want control over their resume data and use AI when they choose to. Self-hosting needs Docker and the command line; the hosted version needs an account.

Before you start: The README recommends building from source with Docker Compose, which needs PostgreSQL and a folder for uploads. Without Docker you need Node 24 and pnpm 12. The interface is available in several languages, and the repository also contains iOS and Android source code. On the hosted service your data sits in the operator's database; self-hosted, it sits in your own database, folder or S3. The privacy policy says that before each AI operation the app names the server and provider and asks your permission; once you agree, the relevant data goes to the provider you picked. If Firecrawl, Tavily or Exa is configured, job links or search terms go to that service so it can read the page. Mock interview recordings are uploaded through the server to your chosen transcription provider, so speech is not recognized on your device. The privacy policy also describes an automated career schedule you can turn on; it runs on a recurring basis until you turn it off. Once you authorize MCP, an AI tool can read and write your profile, resumes and application records. AI Inspiration World recommends only the web and MCP resume features and interview preparation and mock practice before an interview; the mobile option to take a profile photo with the camera is outside that recommendation. The software is free and open source with no paid tier, though model providers and your own server may cost money. MIT license.
