What it is
Podium is a presentation rehearsal tool by J. van Veen, hosted on his own Forgejo code site. On Hacker News, the author says he is bad at presenting, so he had Claude build a simple app to practise with. It runs on your own computer. You speak into the microphone, and it follows along with your slides and answers out loud right away, which is what sets it apart. It has audience, coach and editor modes, and uses OpenAI's Realtime API to listen, transcribe and respond.
Who it's for:Developers who give talks often and want to rehearse on their own. Readers who don't write code won't be able to use it.
Before you start: You need to install Bun, copy the example config file, add your own OpenAI API key, start it on your machine, and open 127.0.0.1:4400 in your browser. Your voice and slides are sent to OpenAI. The author points out that your audio still goes to OpenAI while muted. Slides and transcripts are kept in your browser; deleting them there doesn't delete anything on OpenAI's side. An optional presentation_repo setting lets the AI read and edit slides in a folder you choose, without committing or pushing anything. OpenAI charges you for usage. The interface is available in English, Dutch, German, French and Spanish. The repository has no license, so the code isn't free to reuse.
