What it is
PdfCraft is the PDF app in the "Craft" series from the ArtCraft team at the storytold organization. It is a native desktop program for reading and editing PDFs, reordering pages, merging and splitting files, filling forms and adding comments, built to the ISO 32000 PDF standard. It ships an MCP server that the README describes as "for AI agents such as Claude," so an agent can open, modify and save PDFs, and there is also a CLI. The README says "Documents never leave your machine," with no account, no telemetry and no cloud processing. It runs on macOS, Windows, Linux and FreeBSD, and there is a WebAssembly version for the browser.
Who it's for:people who work with PDFs a lot and want to edit them locally, or who want an AI agent to tidy PDFs for them.
Before you start: download a release build or build it from the Rust source. The app itself uploads nothing, but if you hand files to a cloud AI agent, their content goes to that agent's service. What the MCP server can read and write is limited by the --root option. The optional --control mode opens a loopback-only port with a random token that lets an agent inspect, click, type, press keys and take screenshots of PdfCraft's own window. This project may control your computer, phone, or many account permissions. AI Inspiration World has not tested it and does not recommend it. The first release, v0.1.0, came out on October 2, 2026, so the project is very new. Licensed under MIT or Apache-2.0, at your choice; the ArtCraft name and logo are covered by a separate trademark license. Based on the project's public documentation. Not tested by AI Inspiration World.
