What it is
Paperclip is an open-source platform from Paperclip Labs for managing a group of AI agents that work for you. You set up a "company", give each agent a role, a manager and a budget, break work into tasks for them, discuss and approve inside each task, and see spending by company, agent, project and model. The README lists agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and OpenClaw, and the authors say any agent that can receive a heartbeat signal can join. It runs on your own computer or server and comes with an embedded PostgreSQL database by default.
Who it's for:developers and small teams already running several coding agents who want one place to assign work and track costs. Readers who don't write code won't get much from it.
Before you start: you need Node.js 24.11 or newer; install with `npx paperclipai@latest onboard --yes`. Paperclip itself is free, while the agents and model services you connect are paid separately. The README says anonymous usage telemetry is on by default and that it does not collect personal data, task content, prompts or secrets; set `PAPERCLIP_TELEMETRY_DISABLED=1` or `DO_NOT_TRACK=1` to turn it off. Connected agents read and write your project files and task data, so think through permissions first. MIT license.
