What it is
OpenDesign comes from the GitHub organization nexu-io, and its README calls it "the 1st collaborative AI design agent workspace." You connect an AI coding agent already on your machine, or use the official OpenDesign Cloud, and it produces clickable prototypes, design systems, slide decks, images and motion. It is local-first: project files stay on your computer and you add cloud services when you want them. The sample design systems borrow interface styles from brands like Stripe and Linear, which gives you something to compare against when you start. Desktop builds cover macOS and Windows, Linux runs from source, and there is also a CLI and an MCP entry point. The README is available in Simplified Chinese and other languages.
Who it's for:designers and developers who already use AI coding agents and want to point them at interface and visual design.
Before you start: you can install the desktop app or run it from source or Docker. The README's one-line installer downloads a script with curl and runs it straight away; we don't recommend that route and suggest the desktop installer or the source build instead. OpenDesign starts local agent processes and edits your MCP configuration, and its local daemon listens only on 127.0.0.1 by default. Product analytics and session replay need your consent, while anonymous security and reliability telemetry is always sent. Self-hosting with your own keys (BYOK) is free; OpenDesign Cloud and the Go and Design plans are paid, and model usage is billed separately. Licensed under Apache-2.0. Based on the project's public documentation. Not tested by AI Inspiration World.
