What it is
magpie is a local gateway and menu-bar tool by GitHub user yetone. The author's one-line pitch is "Every agent's model. One place," with examples like Codex on DeepSeek and Claude Code on Kimi. It manages the models, subscriptions and multiple accounts behind your AI coding agents, switches to the next account when one runs out of quota, and can assign accounts in groups. It runs on macOS, Windows, Linux, Docker and Termux. Its main draw is pointing each coding agent at another provider's model and switching from the menu bar.
Who it's for:Developers juggling several AI coding agents and accounts who want to manage them in one place. It is of no use if you don't write code.
Before you start: Install it from the desktop release, or with Go or Docker. The README also offers piping a curl-downloaded script straight into sh; we do not recommend that method. By default it discovers Claude Code and Codex login files and credentials in the system Keychain; we do not recommend letting it read the Keychain or login credentials, and account discovery can be turned off in settings. It rewrites your coding agents' model settings. Daily warm-up sends scheduled requests from your Claude and ChatGPT accounts to start a five-hour usage window, which may use up quota. Gateway plugins can read, rewrite or block every request and reply. A plugin downloads and runs Bun on first use, and the app updates itself. The account gateway can be shared over your local network or remotely and synced to WebDAV, S3 or GitHub. Privacy masking is off by default, and anonymous usage telemetry is on by default but can be turned off. Model requests go to the provider you choose, at that provider's prices. This project may control your computer, phone or a large number of account permissions; we have not tested it and do not recommend it. The code is open source under the MIT license.
