What it is
Immergo is a language-practice application using Google Gemini Live for real-time voice conversations, available from the original ZackAkil repository. You enter situations such as buying a bus ticket or ordering coffee and talk to an AI playing the relevant character. Teacher mode offers explanations and translations, while immersive mode asks you to use the target language to complete the task. The repository links to a demo and documents self-hosting.
Who it's for:Language learners who want situational speaking practice, and developers exploring voice-based teaching applications.
Before you start: Speaking practice needs a microphone and sends audio to Google’s model service. Self-hosting requires Python 3.10+, Node.js 18+ and a Google Cloud project with Vertex AI enabled, with separate service charges. Documentation is in English; check the interface for supported languages and demo access. Code uses Apache-2.0.
