What it is
HeliosGen is a free, open-source desktop app by GitHub user SegFault42. On an infinite canvas you drag and connect prompts, models, reference images and automation steps into reusable AI image and video pipelines. Generation runs through your own kie.ai account, and there's an AI assistant that helps improve your prompts. What sets it apart is that it needs no account and no server: generations, uploads, workflows and settings live in a local database and folder on your computer.
Highlights:
- Node pipelines run in parallel or in sequence
- several models can be chained together
- JSON prompts get a native preview
- deleting the local data folder resets the app.
How to use:
- First download the installer from the Releases page.
- Then open the app and paste your kie.ai key under Settings, API Keys.
- Finally connect nodes on the canvas and start generating.
Who it's for:
AI creators who want to combine several image and video models into their own workflow.
Before you start:
- Ready-made builds exist only for macOS on Apple Silicon for now; Windows and Linux users must build from source.
- The app isn't code-signed yet, and the README tells you to right-click Open or run xattr -cr /Applications/HeliosGen.app on macOS, or click past SmartScreen on Windows.
- Building from source installs Rust with curl ... https://sh.rustup.rs | sh, which downloads a remote script and runs it directly.
- If you use these features, weigh the safety risks yourself.
- AI Inspiration World is not responsible for any consequences.
- Prompts and reference images are sent to kie.ai for generation, and you buy credits on your own kie.ai account and pay per generation.
- The repo has no separate license file; the README calls it open source but names no license, so check before reusing the code.
