GridCraft

GridCraft is an open-source spreadsheet app from the GitHub organization storytold. It reads and writes XLSX, CSV and TSV files and supports formulas, charts, filters and pivot tables. The AI part comes from outside agents: over MCP, the command line or JSON, an agent can read and write cell ranges, formulas and charts. The app itself has no built-in generative model. The README says "Every ribbon button, menu item, dialog, keystroke and mouse gesture is a command," so an agent can call anything the interface can do. The desktop app runs on several systems, and you can build a web version yourself.

Before you start: Download a release build or build from source; the web version has to be built and hosted by you. The README says there is no subscription, no license server and no telemetry; the source is free, and outside agents cost extra. Workbooks are mostly read and written on your computer. Once connected, an agent can read and write your sheets and run any command, and the cells, formulas and rendered views it reads go to the agent; if that agent uses a cloud model, the content goes to the model provider. The project is in an early alpha stage, and XLSX fidelity, formula results and mobile support were not verified in our check. The interface comes in 19 languages including Simplified Chinese, with English shown where a translation is missing. Licensed under MIT or Apache-2.0, your choice.
