What it is
Free English Learning Tools is a GitHub directory from Turtle Bay International Education that links to 11 English-learning sites the team built. They cover IELTS listening and reading paraphrase practice, sentence fixing, back-translation drills, a speaking mock test and writing, plus Cambridge KET, PET and FCE flashcards and a 570-word academic vocabulary list. AI powers two of the sites: an AI examiner runs the speaking mock test, and on the writing site four characters from Journey to the West act as AI coaches, each in charge of one scoring criterion, guiding you through your rewrite. The official directory says everything is free, needs no sign-up and works on phones.
Who it's for:Students preparing for IELTS or Cambridge English exams, and English teachers looking for free practice material.
Before you start: Open the sites in a browser; nothing to install and no account needed. The two AI sites are hosted on the Coze platform: the writing site lets you upload an essay or a photo of one, the speaking site asks for microphone access, and the pages load Coze and Volcengine monitoring scripts. Which AI model receives essays, photos and recordings, and how long they're kept, isn't stated, and there are no consent terms for children. The tools/publish-mirrors.sh script in the repository is for the maintainers to publish mirror sites; ordinary readers don't need to run it. The code is MIT-licensed; the original illustrations, recordings, explanations, example sentences and model essays are CC BY-NC 4.0, for non-commercial teaching and learning only; third-party word lists and excerpts belong to their owners.
