What it is
EffectCraft is a motion design and compositing app published by the GitHub organization storytold and credited to the ArtCraft Team and the repository's contributors. You build a composition, add layers and keyframes, apply effects, composite in 3D, and output through a render queue. Outside AI agents can build compositions and batch-render through MCP or the command line. The app also has two optional models: the README says "Roto Brush can use MobileSAM" for rotoscoping, and MediaPipe can be used for face tracking. Its AI features cover rotoscoping, face tracking and agent control. It runs on macOS, Windows, Linux and FreeBSD, and the README says macOS gets the most testing. The interface comes in more than a dozen languages, including Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
Who it's for:Motion designers and video compositors, and anyone who wants an AI agent to build comps and batch-render.
Before you start: Download a desktop release or build from source with Rust 1.95 or later. The command line can run without the interface, but interface actions need the app running. The project is still in alpha, and the authors caution against relying on it for client production work yet. Projects and output stay mostly local, and the README says it doesn't go online unless you ask it to. From settings you can download the MobileSAM model (about 40 MB) and the MediaPipe model (about 3.8 MB), each under its own license. Whether frames your agent sees are sent to the cloud depends on the agent you use. The app is free and licensed under MIT or Apache-2.0, your choice.
