What it is
DesignCraft is a layout and publishing editor published by the GitHub organization storytold and credited to the ArtCraft Team and the repository's contributors. It handles spreads, text frames, styles and text flow around images, and exports to PDF, EPUB and other formats. The README says "Claude and other agents can lay out and edit documents like a designer": agents work through JSON or MCP. There is no built-in generative layout model; the AI comes from the agent you connect. The README says there is no subscription, no license server and no telemetry. The desktop app runs on macOS, Windows, Linux and FreeBSD, with 14 interface languages including Simplified Chinese; untranslated text falls back to English.
Who it's for:Editors and designers who lay out magazines, books or brochures, and anyone who wants an AI agent to help with layout.
Before you start: Download a release package or build from source with Rust 1.95 or later. The project is pre-alpha, and compatibility with files from other layout software has not been verified by AI Inspiration World. Documents, assets and fonts stay on your computer. When an agent inspects a document through MCP, the content goes to that agent, and leaves your computer if the agent uses a cloud model. Headless MCP can restrict which folders it reads and writes, but the authors' docs say the desktop control connection doesn't have the same restriction yet. The app is free and licensed under MIT or Apache-2.0, your choice. Commercial fonts and outside agents cost extra.
Based on the project's public documentation. Not tested by AI Inspiration World.
