What it is
deepseek-harness (command name dsh) is a plugin-based harness for coding agents published by DeepSeek (GitHub: deepseek-ai). With Node.js installed, running npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web opens a local web interface at 127.0.0.1:3080, and there is a command-line mode too. The project's safety notes say it executes model-generated code and commands and loads third-party plugins. It comes from DeepSeek itself, and one download gives you a working agent interface on your own machine.
Who it's for:Programmers who want to try a DeepSeek coding agent on their own computer. It is of no use if you don't write code.
Before you start: Node.js is required. The project calls itself an experimental developer preview that has not been security-audited, and warns against treating it as secure or production-ready; versions may break compatibility. Its safety notes say it can run model-generated code and commands, load third-party plugins, and reach the network, processes, credentials and files, so it may change or delete files or leak data, and sandboxing and approvals do not guarantee safety. We do not recommend using it on machines with sensitive data or in production. The README does not list full operating-system support. Model and hosting costs are separate and set by the provider. The code is open source under the MIT license.
