What it is
DeckCraft is an open-source presentation editor from the GitHub organization storytold. You can build pages, add shapes, switch themes, present and export. The AI part comes from outside agents: through the command line or MCP, an agent calls the same commands a person uses to edit slides. The app itself has no built-in generative model. The README says "people, scripts and AI agents use the same verbs": people, scripts and agents edit slides with one set of commands. It runs on macOS, Windows, Linux and FreeBSD, and you can build a web version yourself.
Who it's for:People who make presentations, and anyone who wants an AI agent to lay out slide structure or edit pages in bulk.
Before you start: Download a GitHub release or build from source with Rust; the web version has to be built and hosted by you. The source is free, and the editing flow we read about needs no login or subscription; outside agents, commercial assets and fonts cost extra. Decks, images and exports stay mainly on your computer. Once connected, an agent reads your slide content, and if it uses a cloud model, the content goes to the model provider. In headless MCP mode you can limit which folders the agent may read and write; the docs say the desktop --control mode does not have the same limits yet. The README also lists a Gentoo community install command that changes your system's package configuration; regular users don't need it. The project is in an early alpha stage, and import and export quality and other interface languages were not verified in our check. Licensed under MIT or Apache-2.0, your choice.
