What it is

coucou is an open-source companion app by Louis Raillé. It sits in the notch at the top of your Mac screen (along the top edge on Windows and Linux) and also has an iPhone version. It shows your running coding agent sessions in real time, including which files changed and the diffs. When an agent asks for permission or has a question, you can allow, deny or always allow right from the notch. The README lists Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, Copilot CLI, OpenCode and Amp among the supported agents. An animated character called Mochi reacts as you work, you can chat with Claude, Gemini, OpenAI or a local model, and it puts together a weekly coding recap.

Who it's for:developers running several coding agents at once who are tired of switching windows to approve permissions. Readers who don't write code won't need it.

Before you start: on macOS 15 or later, download it from GitHub Releases. The iPhone app (iOS 18 or later) is a TestFlight beta and needs the same iCloud account as your Mac. The Linux build is a beta for x86_64 only, and the Windows installer is temporarily unavailable, so Windows users have to build from source. It installs hooks in your agents to read sessions and keeps model keys in the system keychain. The README says there is no telemetry and no account, and iPhone sync runs through your own private iCloud database; the model services you configure do go online. The code is MIT licensed, while the name, the Mochi character, the icon and the sounds remain the author's copyright.
