What it is
Compositor is a native macOS image editor by GitHub user Robbie Tilton, with Wonder Assembly LLC as the copyright holder in its license. It has layers, masks, vectors, and text, and can import PSD files. A .comp project is a folder of PNG and JSON files, and the README says "AI agents and scripts can build and edit projects directly"; the open canvas updates live. AI agents work alongside the editor and change the layers of your design files directly; the editor itself generates no images. Install it from the official site, GitHub releases, or Homebrew.
Who it's for:Designers and developers on a Mac who want an agent such as Claude Code to help edit layers in bulk. If you want AI to generate images for you, this tool won't do that.
Before you start: It requires macOS 26 or later on an Apple Silicon Mac. Third-party ports for Windows and Linux exist but have not been verified by the author and are not officially supported. The editor works on local files and needs no account. If you connect an outside agent, whether your project content goes to a model depends on that agent. The license is MIT, so commercial use is allowed as long as you keep the copyright and license notice; fonts and third-party assets follow their own licenses.
