What it is
ComfyUI is an open-source AI creation tool maintained by Comfy Org, which calls it the AI creation engine for visual professionals. You build workflows from nodes: load a model, write a prompt, generate, upscale, retouch, each step a block, and connected together they form a complete pipeline for images, video and audio. Most of the work runs on your own computer, with an official cloud service as an option. What sets it apart is that every step is visible and adjustable on its own, and finished workflows can be saved and reused.
Who it's for:creators who want fine control over every stage of AI image and video generation and are willing to learn nodes and models.
Before you start: running it locally needs Python and its dependencies, ideally a good graphics card, and models you download yourself; it works on Windows, macOS and Linux. Community custom nodes are executable code, and the node manager installs outside dependencies, so we only recommend the official core plus nodes you have checked, and don't recommend one-click installing unfamiliar nodes or linked scripts. Some partner and API nodes upload content to the cloud and charge for it; these can be turned off in the core. The open-source core is free, while compute, models and cloud services cost extra. It is licensed under GPL-3.0.
