What it is
CodeReel by NathanPickard is a VS Code extension for JavaScript and TypeScript. Clicking the explanation button above a function sends it to Claude, then displays an animated sequence with highlighted lines and variable values. A connected React app can update alongside those steps. The animation runs inside the editor; video export is not an implemented feature in the documentation.
Who it's for:Developers learning or teaching JavaScript, TypeScript and React. It is not useful for readers who do not work with code.
Before you start: The documentation requires VS Code 1.85+, Node.js 18+ and an Anthropic API key, with provider charges for calls. Function source code is sent to Claude; we do not recommend submitting code you are not allowed to share. React synchronisation requires wiring up state listeners. The README says MIT, but a LICENSE file was not available at the checked commit, so confirm permissions before redistribution or commercial use. Documentation and explanation examples are in English.
